the news is on.
they were just in nags head, NC where the hurricane is whipping things around already. That's where I spent my summe you know. Well, I actually spent it down the road in Manteo,NC but the reporter was using the pier for his background and right on the other side of that pier is the beach we always went too. It's the beach everyone always went to. Good enough waves to longboard, warm enough water to wade in and always a ton of people from work there to keep you company.
Now they're showing the coast guard rescuing people off their boats in the choppy long island sound. One of the boats had sunk completely. I used to live right next to the L.I. sound. But at the time I was living in CT. We lived a short walk from a marina and I have lots of memories, or atleast home video memories, of walking down there with the whole family and playing on the rocks.
There it is exactly. Of course, those rocks at the end there were a lot higher when we played there. I dont know what possessed me to go find an actual picture of where I spent some of my childhood playtime but I often think about it there. I always wonder what I would have been like if I had grown up in CT. I guarantee life would have been a tad different.
I was in a hurricane when we lived there. Gloria. I think that was '85? I remember a tree fell into our garage. We spent the few days with our grandparents who lived not to far away. I remember being sort of stuck there because an extremely large tree fell across the end of the driveway. I remember being allowed to go outside for a little bit during the eye and I chose to play in an uprooted tree. I remember learning the term uprooted.
Hurricane's are absolutely amazing. Yes, I understand they're very scary for a lot of people and many could lose their homes...but I also have to say that if you're going to move to the coast, that's just how it goes. It's part of life. Just like if you live in NYC, you have to know that it's going to be noisy and crowded.
Aaaaah life. I hope you all stay safe and well during the storm if it hits your region. Im just hoping the power stays on is all....otherwise, bring on the storm!
