House guest. We have our first one. He's a friend of mine from down south who got seriously fucked over by some girl...who just so happens to be a stripper. I cant help but giggle silently at his misfortune. I mean, he's fine, he can stay with us and he has other friends here too so I can get a quiet little chuckle in, right? I mean c'mon, can you really trust a stripper? Of course, you know Im kidding. Actually, one of my better friends out of college got her way there by dancing in a topless club. You know that age old story? But to tell this poor fella that he had a place to live when he was making his big move from North Carolina to NYC and then getting a roomate and changing your number, ouch. Lucky for him, he just happens to have some rich model friends in the neighborhood and then he knows us, so he's all set.
Ive heard alot of stories fairly similar to this. One guy I worked with came here to live with his girlfriend from somewhere far off, only to have his girlfriend promptly dump him as soon as he got here. Same thing happened to the boy. Double ouch. We told my friend not to fear, it's a common occurence to hit a big ol' bump in the road on your first move to nyc. For me, it was that none of my contacts for work would call me back all of the sudden...cept for the boy. Hence, one of the many reasons he is the boy.
Nothing of major excitement has gone down around here lately. I am actually rather fond of the peace and quiet we've had the past couple days. We closed out week three at my job this past saturday. This week went by so quick, Im not even sure that it happened. On to a props persons nightmare this week, that's right, The Glass Menagerie. Incase you couldn't tell by the title, this show includes a wide selection of glass items. "Actor proofing" usually proves to be a waste of time when doing a show like this. I'll be sure to let you know if and how much glass we broke this week. Maybe the designer will decide that little plastic figurines will do.....yeah right. Wishful thinking.
Yesterday was rent some movies and order chinese day. We rented One Hour Photo, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Rules of Attraction. Okay, let me just tell you that One Hour Photo was very bizarre. If you havent heard of it, Robin Williams plays a total psycho....and he's really really good at it. Now the movie itself kind of leaves something to be desired, but it's very worth seeing Williams in this totally different role for him. The acting in it is great, there's just a couple holes that could have been filled I think. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was kinda cut off by my friend coming home from his night out so I cant tell you how I felt about that until I really watch it tonite. Now, moving on, Rules of Attraction...the story of Jason Bateman, the American Psycho, as a college student and pretty much why he goes crazy in the first place. Incredible! Not for the faint of heart. It can be pretty creepy. But my god, I just have to first say that James Van Derbeek (Dawson from Dawson's Creek) was beyond amazing. He was so very good. And the cinematography in this movie was genius....gorgeous. It is a truly disturbing film, but the angles and shots they take are just down right incredible in my humble opinion. If you're into bizarre thrillish type movies with a weird story line, I would totally suggest this movie. I was by no means dissappointed....rather, very very impressed.
Okay, ta.
