It's been awhile...but for good reason. I had to keep my mouth shut for a few days.
Last friday night when I returned home from the show, I had a message from one of the boy's co=workers. He asked me if I would be able to fly down for the boy's birthday this weekend as a surprise if the A/T's (actor/technicians) paid for it.
HUH?
Unfortunately I work on weekends and so I was a little sad for a few because I figured their idea wouldn't pan out. I got a hold of him the next morning and told him my only days off during the week are Tuesday and Wednesday. He said we'd work it out but that wasn't even the cool part of the conversation. He proceded to tell me how he had found one of the A/T's before he spoke with me and threw the idea out to him. Asked him if the other A/T's would be interested. Ten minutes later the same A/T walked out with $250. For those of you who don't know, an A/T comes home with about 100 bucks a week. They don't get paid nearly enough to eat, let alone buy their bosses girlfriend a plane ticket. I was in shock, but most of all, couldn't wait to meet these people who seem to love my fella as much as I do.
So it was set. The tickets were purchased and confirmed on Saturday morning and I was to leave on tuesday.
I arrived at the airport on tuesday morning for my 10:04 flight to Newport News and after sitting there for a couple hours the flight was cancelled, then re-instated and delayed. Long story short, I got there only about 2 hours later than planned and the man who headed up the whole operation was waiting for me at the airport down south. We drove 2 hours to Manteo and pulled into the main parking lot of the theatre where the A/T's were waiting to march me down to the boy's house. The entire time I was wondering if he had ever caught on.
We walked up the porch, knocked on the screen door and he walked out. I was hiding behind a couple of the folks until he turned to look and I popped out. I believe his words were "Baby?.....What are you doin' here?" and I swear I heard a couple sniffles.
So we got him. he was totally surprised and then the boy and I had a fabulous couple of days together. It was so great to see him and meet all the wonderful people who did this for his birthday. I bought them all a keg for tuesday night and we went over to the main living area and hungout with all of them. Wednesday we slept late, went to the beach and then went to see the boy's mom. I also got to see the show on Tuesday night which was a blast because I had never really seen it from the house before. Only the sidelines.
I miss that place. I miss the boy. I had such a good time.
Though of course, it's good to be back in NYC. I will hopefully be returning for a non surprise visit in July for a nice long week vacation.
